George Malcolm Goodridge, known to his friends and colleagues as ‘Mac’, has died aged 87.
Mr Goodridge was a keen local sportsman and at one time played a lot of cricket. He also played in goal with Grantham Hockey Club.
But he was best known in the 1980s for his work on basketball, and as coach produced a very active ladies team.
As chairman of Grantham Sports Council around that time, he also created Grantham Ladies Netball League and was instrumental in encouragement women into sport locally.
Perhaps his biggest success was Grantham Sports Festival at the former Arnoldfield sportsground in 1985, with about 150 teams demonstrating 50 different sports. He received an award from East Midlands Sports Council for his efforts.
His funeral Service is on Monday January 13th at 11.30am at the Grantham crematorium. Family flowers only.
Donations for The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and The Salvation Army can be given on the day or forwarded to Robert Holland Funerals.
