Who recalls this village pub? February 22, 2021 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment THIS picture was taken during the Second World War outside the White Horse, Welbourn. He is George Chapman, of Welbourn, who was on leave from the Merchant Navy. The dog belonged to landlord Harold Harmston, who ran the pub from 1933 until it closed in 1961. His son Jack Harmston, 81, who brought in the picture said beer then was 4d (1.6p). Mowbray’s brewery was on London Road, Brewery Hill and Commercial Road, in Grantham. Mr Harmston Jun, of Dycote Lane, Welbourn, worked for Lincolnshire RoadCar for 50 years.
