SKDC is not a nice place to work says former employee

July 30, 2019 by Grantham Matters 1 Comment

Former SKDC employee says…

I felt after the council’s CEO Aidan Rave’s leaving, it was a good time to say as someone who worked for SKDC, what its really like.

It’s not a great place to work.

You get stress from your managers, who are often on high wages to keep up with your PI’s, you get councillors coming at you wanting you to do things so they look good and can put their name against what an officer has really done. (How often in the Grantham Journal do you see a staff member, its always a Councillor saying what has been done, in fact they do not do the work other than rubber stamp it, its council staff behind the scenes.)

Staff complete staff surveys on how they feel, same issues get reported every year, to much middle and high management, not enough staff on ground, stress, no flexible working. This never gets resolved, same issues will I’m sure be highlighted again this year.

Aidan was listening, and doing his best to change SK for the staff, but high management and middle management prevent change.

It’s very much, I’m alright Jack attitude from them. Recent staff review ended up on front line staff facing going, whilst mangers get a pay rise. Front line staff get more work for no more money.

Numerous staff go off – front line, with stress each week. Shows in the recent report on staff sickness.

Not a nice place to work at all, well not if your front line . Ok if your a manager.

  1. The Thinker says

Ask me why I’m not in the least surprised.
I’ve said for years that front line employees who do the “graft” get very little recognition while the over paid, self important, inept, incompetent so called managers get the pay and recognition. It has airways been so and so shall it always be.
I’ve always found it a problem to come to terms with the Council statement of when they employ a senior position at an exorbitant salary they roll out the line” We are paying for expertise” funny then with the plethora of “experts” that clog up the corridors of power we seem to have more problems than ever. Something is very wrong
