Budding photographers are being asked to send in pictures of what makes them happy, as part of a local NHS Trust’s competition for World Mental Health Day next month.
A family day of celebrations has been organised by Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust on 10th October, to mark the global event, which will culminate in a display of photographs at a city centre venue.
The Trust event, has the theme of ‘Living well in our communities’, and organisers are asking residents in Lincolnshire to submit a photo which best depicts their view of what makes them happy and helps them look after their mental health and wellbeing.
Everyone who submits a photo will be entered into a random prize draw, with a first prize of £100 worth of shopping vouchers. Second and third place will receive vouchers for £50 and £25 respectively.
The Trust has teamed up with county-based Cultural Solutions UK, an independent arts and cultural development organisation, to host the event, which will feature music and creative writing workshops, visual arts, and a performance by Marvellous Me! – an innovative theatre production commissioned by Enable East and delivered by Invisible Arts, addressing mental health issues for under 11s.
World Mental Health Day is now a yearly event and aims to challenge stigma and raise awareness of mental health problems on a global scale.
Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is the county’s main provider of specialist health and social care services, for people with a learning disability, mental health or drug and alcohol problems.
Trust chairman, Paul Devlin, said 10th October is an important day for the Trust as a whole to celebrate.
He said: “World Mental Health Day is all about raising awareness of what can be done to ensure that people with mental health problems can live well in their communities as much as possible.
“It’s a great opportunity for our staff and patients to come together and recognise the important work that goes on day in, day out, not just across Lincolnshire, but throughout the world to help people get the most out of their lives.
“Please do get involved. Send us a picture of what makes you happy, as we want to feature as many as possible as part of the display.
“We want to show the variety of ways people look after their own mental wellbeing – and you never know, you may even end up in the Echo!”
The event kicks off at 10:00 on 10th October at the Alive (New Life) Centre, 22 Newland, Lincoln, LN1 1XD and all are welcome to attend.
