Network Rail, who have spent the last four months admiring the Victorian workmanship on Springfield Road Bridge, says they are set to reopen this month.
It should have been open today, but NR said that would have sounded like a joke.
Among the features will be new signage.
Company spokesman, Watt Daisitte, said: “We considered putting up barriers and laser operated warning signs to prevent freight entering the area, but we felt we would be depriving Grantham people of the fun.
“Moaning about bridge hits has become part of the Grantham culture, and be it far from us to take that away.
“We will also remove all warning signs and replace them with the one below, designed by Dee Farrell …”
