The Grantham soldier who completed a record-breaking 30 marathons in 30 days to fundraise for two veterans charities has spoken about his achievement
Private Richard Lake did it while carrying a rather hefty backpack with 28 kilograms in there.
He said: “So now the dust has settled. My legs are no longer sore and my feet are on the mend. I cannot believe that five days ago I finished this mammoth challenge of Tabbing 30 marathons back to back with a Bergen weighing 28KG.
“I truly cannot believe all the support I received during this challenge and after. The donations have kept on coming in and we have well and truly smashed the £5000 I set out to achieve.
“We are at £6,570!! I am so grateful to everyone!!
“In the pipeline is a book. For me I want to share with others all the obstacles I faced in the build-up and during this challenge. I want people to understand what coping mechanisms I had starting from day two when my feet were covered in blisters.
“I don’t want to give too much away but I promise it’ll inspire you all to go and do something out of the ordinary.
“I will be closing the JustGiving page down at the end of today so please let’s give this one final push.
“From the bottom of my heart a massive thank you to everyone.”
