A MUM of three who has been without heating or hot water since Christmas Day says she believes the council have been ‘heartless’.
Holly Campbell (29) moved into her Melbourne Road council home just over a month ago with her three children, aged 11, five, and one.
She said: “We’ve had no heating or hot water since Christmas. We’ve been messed around over and over.
“The council have said they have approved new boiler to Liberty Gas but they have called to say will be Friday. It’s no good. It’s been too long.
“My baby girl really poorly and it’s worse that can’t keep her warm.”
Holly says she and her children have been unable to bath and there is no shower in the bathroom.
“I can’t even boil a bucket of water.
“Last night my five-year-old was in bed shivering.”
And although the work is set to be done tomorrow, she says it has been too long.
“They came initially and said it was condensation in the boiler, but now they agree it needs a new one.
“I got a couple of electric fires but they are costing £10 a day to run. The other rooms in the house are damp because of the lack of heating. We’ve had nothing since Christmas Day.
“I’d have paid to have the job done myself, but I just can’t afford it.”
And she says the council showed a lack of compassion.
“When I spoke to the office on the phone, they were heartless.”
An SKDC spokesman said: “Following repair requests on December 27, and then a further inspection on January 2, it was identified the boiler at the property required replacing.
“This will be completed within the next few days and operatives are working as quickly as possible to resolve the problem.
“Fan heaters were offered to the tenant as an interim measure.. We will work with them to assist funding energy costs during this period.”
