Grantham Dramatic Society’s next production – ‘A Tomb With A View’ – opens at the Guildhall Arts Centre from Wednesday, 8 June. The comedy murder-mystery, set in a spooky isolated mansion, is billed as being packed with ‘twists, turns and bodies’.
The production promises an evening blending belly laughs and intrigue with a wealth of murderous characters.
The story opens on the night of a will reading, when a multi-million pound fortune will be carved up between the assembled family and hangers-on. But, through his cunningly crafted will, the deceased patriarch Septimus Tomb sets in motion a series of grisly murders by a family who see nothing wrong with planting their victims under the marigolds.

Director Joy Wilson said: “This play is an absolute blast. The characters are so much fun, and many have a ‘unique’ attitude to murder which means literally any of them could be a suspect. The cast are having so much fun preparing for the show – and even our prompt can’t keep a straight face!
“The backstage team are loving putting together the set, props and costumes too. It’s a classic creaking country house, with secret passages, cellars and fog, and a wide range of causes of death. This makes for some interesting challenges which should keep the audiences guessing.
“The plot is really well-crafted and the author has put in a lot of brilliant character details amongst the twists and turns. We don’t think anyone will be able to predict the ending – so come along and see if you can.”
A Tomb With A View is written by Norman Robbins, who as a former actor started writing plays that have proved very popular with performers and audiences alike. ‘A Tomb With A View’ is the first of a trilogy of ‘Tomb’ plays. If this production proves popular, further titles could be performed by the group.
