The event took place in the car park of the old leisure centre on Union Street.

Paul Clark took this photo in Grantham in February 1984 from the new multi-storey car park on Wharf Road.
In the foreground was Jim Baxter’s Victorian Bazaar looking quite fresh.
Behind it is the shoe factory and behind that, the railway station.
The poplars in the background are still there, between Victoria Street and the Grantham Prep School, Gorse Lane.
Vaughan Hardy reminds us….
It is 75 years today (January 1941) that BMARCo’s Springfield Road factory was bombed by a Junker JU88 with the loss of 16 lives.
Two Great Gonerby players, John Fowler and Cyril Brown, paid a visit to Old Trafford in 1987. This was taken at the Cliff training ground.
From left are Bailey, Gidman, Bryan Robson, John Fowler (GG) Stapleton, Cyril Brown (GG), McGrath.
The visit was arranged by Grabntham-born singer Vince Eager and were accompanied by Journal sports editor John Pinchbeck who took the picture.
While at Old Trafford, they were waiting in a corridor, when Cyril decided to visit the gents. As the door closed, an office door opposite opened and out stepped Sir Matt Busby and like royalty, shook hands with the two Johns wished them well and disappered through the exit, as Cyril reappeared.
And to this day, Cyril doesn’t believe them – but it’s true – honest!
Who remember the 1982-85 Nirex Protest at Fulbeck airfield, when the Government planned to dump Nuclear waste there?
I can’t help but this that nowadays we would just let it happen and moan about it
