Tomorrow, Sunday 25th, will be the 29th year of the Annual Motorbike Toy Run from Bottesford to Grantham Meres Leisure Centre to be greeted by the Mayor, Coun Linda Coutts.
The hundreds of bikes will be leaving from the Rutland Arms, Bottesford, at around 11am, travelling along the A52 and then turning right at the Harvester roundabout on Barrowby Road, into Barrowby Gate.
After the gifts have been delivered we will then be riding over to Melton Mowbray to pass on more toys etc for their local kids. The event is organised by the Nottingham Triumph Owners Club who also organise the annual Easter Egg ride.
In the past we used to be able ride through Grantham town Centre escorted by the police where the local community would turn out to cheer and wave us on.
The local council and local police now seem to think that the Charity ride isn’t important enough to warrant the escort and so now we have to ride around the outskirts of the town.
I have to wonder why on Boxing Day the Belvoir Hunt can be virtually given the freedom of the town Centre with a police presence and local dignitaries virtually fawning over them.
All of the bikers pay for the presents out of their own pockets, and do so gladly.
