He was, like his father and brother, a solicitor.
Born at St Peter’s Hill, he moved to Manthorpe Road before returning to his father’s home on his death.
He was a keen and able cricketer and captained Lincolnshire for many years as well as Grantham Cricket Club. He was also a keen rugby player, turning out for Leicester Tigers as well as being a very good tennis player.
In addition he was a competent artist, creating caricatures of local personalities both on paper and with plasticine.
He became a partner in the practice in 1931 and retired to Hove, near Brighton, with his wife Olive in 1939.
