Protestors at the Meet
A foxhound was struck by a taxi at the Belvoir Hunt Meeet this morning, but ran off apparently uninjured.
It has again raised calls by the public for road closures at such events – including the Motorcyle Runs and Grantham Carnival parade.
Sophie Dodwell said: “I am so angry that the roads are no longer closed.
“Lots of kids saw it all happen and started crying as you can imagine.
“Hopefully, someone that is part of the organisation of the hunt or local authorities for them to re think not closing the roads.”
Dozens of riders turned out for this year’s Boxing Day event at 11am, where the stirrup cup was passed around by Coun Linda Wootten as a small group of protestors chanted “Shame oin you councillor Wootten.”
But there were more confrontations between onlookers who spilled on to St Peter’s Hill and motorists.
There was plenty of horns blowing and tresponding jeers from spectators.
The incident involving the foxhound brought a huge gasp from onlookers near the traffic signals.
